Gidey has never won a major 5k race in her life. I don't know but this might be the first time that someone considerably improves a WR without having won major international races in that distance. One reason is of course the lack of kick, even in a fastish race like Monaco someone like Obiri will usually have a faster last lap. And Gidey is rarely confident enough to force the pace early (and even that was not enough for the win at the Pre 3k last year).
But it looked so easy that it is hard not to think Obiri or Hassan in their best form could have run sub 14 under such conditions and it makes one wonder why the 14:11 stood so long.
