I can name 10 women before you get to Jorgensen. Hassan is not American.
Some have glycogen depletion talent and some don’t. The marathon is a silly distance to race anyway. I’d like to see it replaced with 30k road races on a circuit like this...
March - Tokyo 30k
April - Boston 30k
May - London 30k
September - Berlin 30k
October - Chicago 30k
November - New York 30k
We can see the best race more often. Also, if someone has a bad race they didn’t necessarily waste six months of their lives.

Glycogen is a non-issue. If you don't carboload and don't take supplemental carbohydrates during the race, then, sure, you'll bonk hard. But it is VERY easy to have enough glycogen for a marathon, and pro athletes are not messing it up.
The reason the physiologists talk so much about glycogen is because they don't have any other explanation for what causes fatigue at paces slower than LT.

Right, for some reason people will grab for names like Hassan, Jorgensen, Cranny before names like Thweatt, Taylor, and even Hasay. Hell, I'd even bank Bruce ahead of Jorgensen.

It took this long for the slackers at HQ to notice a thread about a non-Nike runner? It's a good thing our leaders in Oregon finally came up with a decent shoe. For a century now people have been trying to run marathons. Inthe last 4 years, some have pulled it off. They truly are essential!
A couple things Huddle seems to have going for her:
- based on interviews, my memory, she has never seemed to got the high mileage, high volume method of training. That seems like the main thing that hurts long careers.
- relatively injury free, indicates possibly better bio mechanics, which would help several more good years.
