Jonathan Gault tried to find out as he talked to both her and coach Ray Treacy this week.
Huddle just turned 36 but has yet to come up with a signature marathon performance. Will she ever produce one? Remember, Shalane Flanagan won NYC at 36, Kenya's Edna Kiplagat won Boston at age 37, and Romania's Constantina Dita won the 2008 Olympic marathon at 38. That's the good news. The bad news is her coach Ray Treacy told Jonathan that he always thought the marathon might be a struggle for Huddle. "Tempo running is not a strong suit for her, which is really important for the marathon," said Treacy.

Molly Huddle just turned 36, how much does she have left? Will she ever rock the marathon?

She is a good runner with a lot of accomplishments, but I don't think she will have a significant marathon result to match the rest of her body of work.
-
Good one. Got me. It’s a ‘catch sale’ to try to market the LetsRun VIP goat shirt thing.
Not bad Wejo. Not bad. -
She's always looked uncomfortable running the marathon, verses Jordan Hasay who looks as smooth as butter. Some people are born for it, and others are not.
-
Molly races the marathon like its a track race. She responds to every move and can’t relax. This works for the track. It even works for a HM but not the marathon.
-
Plenty and maybe.
Also, no thanks. -
The Brojos are starting to remind me of that friend who keeps trying to tell me about the great business idea they heard about that is allowing people to retire at 28.

No, I don't want to subscribe. LR starting to take pages from Barstool. -
In today's podcast, we join in the chorus of male voices asking women if they are past their prime.
Don't worry though! This is exclusively related to running. And nothing about her looks! Keep that in the forums.

I would be very very surprised if Molly was able to make any more noise on the track or on the roads. Besides her slowing down, there is just too much of a backlog of stellar younger women runners on the scene. She's had an awesome run and for awhile there was heads and shoulders above her US comp.

Molly says "hold my beer."
Just watch..... -

I agree. I think she's like Ritz. Sure, she can put in a solid marathon time, but I think it just isn't her bag. Which sucks as a fan of the sport and for her in terms of paydays, but I think she should move back down to the 10k and half. -
I will be a fan of hers whether she runs another marathon or not. Id like to see her focus on her best events, but I understand running a marathon in the future might be a business/financial decision. Or maybe she is chasing unfinished goals.
-
Nothing is impossible. Its a matter of who and what she will believe that will get her there.
-
Another silly thread
-
I think like Farah her range doesn't extend to the marathon. She's a good marathoner but not a top marathoner.
-
Will she make the Olympic Team in the 10k? After all of the upsets in the marathon it’s going to be one crowded field... Sisson, Hall, Infeld if healthy, Hassan, Jorgensen, possibly Fraser or Cranny?

What the heck does that even mean? I know there are lots of people who can’t take the pounding of the marathon on their legs / have energy issues at 1:45 but is that really a tempo running issue? Probably more of a not wearing vaporfly issue😂 -
She actually decided not to run in the Saucony version of the Vaporfly due to an ankle issue. This seems to be a symptom of her lack of performance that she hasn't accepted that a good marathon is more about logistics than in a track race.
