Featuring classic rock music and sound effects, the competition attracted the attention of people passing by who normally wouldn't watch track and field. One interviewed spectator said he came by after he had a terrible "Tinder" date at a nearby cafe. "Even with the rain, this can't be worse than the date I was on, so I decided to watch and it was a great event. ... I don't know anything about athletics, maybe Usain Bolt. But I like what they did with the music and everything.”

World Athletics:

She had announced she was going to double at worlds, but now says, “I’m not running the 200m. I’m telling my coach he has to change his mind. The 200m is too far so I’m set for the 100m!”

Ortega is ranked #1 in the world this year, but won't be able to compete in Beijing because he recently switched citizenship from Cuba to Spain.

 

LRC Katie Mackey Kicks Best in 3,000 to Earn First Diamond League Victory in 8:52.99

Katie Mackey did something Molly Huddle and Shalane Flanagan have never done. Win a Diamond League meet.

Previously she had said her coach, Stephen Francis, was only letting her do the 100 and relay.

World Athletics:

She threw 20.13 to win and put herself in an unbeatable position in the DL standings. Valerie Adams continued to struggle in her comeback and only finished 4th. Canada's Tim Nedow won the men's SP with 20.78m.
