Anyone know of any good routes, trails, or paths to do a distance run on in western Connecticut? Thanks.

Even though these are for biking, I'm sure you could run on them as well. I live on the other side of the state, so if you needed places to run there, just email me.

Where at in western CT? West Hartford is pretty central, but the reservoir there has a pretty good trail system, you can get a good 10 mile run in on all trails without backtracking, longer if you're willing to go on the paved portions.

Tarrywille Park-700 acre park in southern Danbury. There are miles of real, unpaved trails and meadows to run through
http://www.danbury.org/tarry/

Seth Low Pierremont State Park- 200 acre park in southern Ridgefield. there are a few trails there that can be combined for some good runs.

here is a list of other places to run
http://www.berkshirehiking.com/hikes/nw_ct.html

there are several other loops that are good to run.

I lived near Hartford CT for a short time and I did a number of longer runs around a couple of the state forests as well as the Reservoirs just outside of W Hartford. Two forests that come to mind are Nepaug and Penwood. Nepaug is near New Hartford, Penwood is in Simsbury. I don't know if this is "western CT" per se, but the state is small enough to drive halfway across on a Saturday afternoon if you need to...

Not a bad place to train from May to mid-October...

Where in Western CT - north or south? If south Waveny Park in New Canaan is small but has about 6 miles of bridle path trails - Khalid sometimes trains there and there are XC races every Tuesday night in the summer.

Devil's Den in Weston is bigger and more rugged, great place to run, if you follow the easternmost trail you'll go right by Keith Richards' house - maybe you'll bump into Mick out running to get in shape for their tour. Get me an email and I can give you a bunch of other places.

Good places to run in CT:

-Wickham Park in Manchester. Very hilly but is hailed as one of the best cross country courses in the Northeast.

-West Hartford Resivour. Numerous trails and very cool and shady.

-Blackledge Falls in Glastonbury. It cuts right into Gay City State Park and is one of my favorite hardcore trail running courses in the state.

Hope this helps some.

thanks to everyone who posted. i've run at a couple of these places before, and they are all great. i live in waterbury, but i figure that a half hour drive is worth it for a 10-15 mile sunday run.

JimG, my e-mail is kasabian2007@yahoo.com if you have any more suggestions.

thanks again everyone

Going to be in Storrs at UCONN next week. Any trails around campus? Anything on campus I should be sure to visit?

Thanks.

Larkin Bridle path is close to Waterbury, you can get on it in Naugatuck. Best place that I have run in CT. 10 miles of cinder trail, just have to cross the road in a few places.

Another option is People's State forest up in Barkhamsted. It's on the hilly side, but there are a lot of trails.

If you are looking for something around New Haven then try going to the Woodbridge Running Co. they will have many ideas on places that you can run. Also in Milford there is a place called Eisenhower park, and if you let yourself get lost in the back trails you can find a solid 10 -11 miles back there. any questions let me know.

2 trails that we ran alot, one is behind mansfield apartments,(sanctuary is what we call it) inquire as to where the apartments are, really close to the campus, ~1.5 mile trail loop. the other is behind horsebarn hill (we follow the blue trail), longer trails, many ways to go, it doesnt loop back to campus on the trail if you travel far, either go out and back or turn up a road.

as far as anything on campus that is exciting, sorry. people like to say go to the dairy bar, which is an ice cream place where they make their own ice cream and its really good, but i say its overrated.

Hopefully you are aware that UCONN is in the woods. About 25 miles from Hartford and about 75 miles from Boston. Closest thing to a city is Willimantic which is CT's "dirty secret". Lots of heroin and crack there if that's your thing. That's about 15 miles away.

On the bright side, lots of pretty farm country and I can send you to a "Cerutty sand hill " about 15-20 mimute drive away that will knock your socks off. Best workout spot in the state bar none. (It's actually in Holland Mass.)

Let me know if you want directions.
