Say over the summer I ran easy miles just to get to a decent mileage. Then from September to June I ran the same two week cycle. A speed focused session with longer rest. A tempo session and then either hills, longer intervals, fartlek runs + 3 longer easy runs throughout the week.
Given that you are training speed for about 9 months it should mean you speed would be much improved. The real issue would be not burning out but provided you ran the longer runs more easily and increased mileage over the season to prevent a plateau.
