Hi, I'm just about done in my XC season, I'm more of a speed guy but I'm somewhat satisfied with the season. I'm a senior, and I probably did relatively low mileage this whole season; 35-40 approximately this year and ran a 17:11 which is a 30 second PR from last year. Here are my PR's from track last year:
200: ~24
400-54
800-? Never ran one, but I'd like to give it a shot considering my endurance base from XC I'd guess I'd be around the 2:05-2:08 range
I'd like to run around 52 or better and close to whatever equates to that time in the half mile minute this year in track as far as goals are concerned. Previous winters, I've not done much running, I would lift but wouldn't run for a while and then come into track in January out of shape. It would take me awhile, but by May I would start to breakthrough. I'm hoping that if I take my training more serious this winter, it'll set me up for the success I'm aiming for.
My question is: what should I be doing for the next few months to prepare for track? Would building my mileage higher progressively doing some speed workouts 1-2x a week, and lifting/ploys be good 2-3x a week be good? Also, I've read about speed endurance and I'm not sure if I should do those workouts as well.
Thank you to anyone who gives solid advice..
