I am hoping for some advice on what to do next for an running injury. It's been 4 1/2 years since the original injury occurred. After a 5-6 month long training cycle and full Ironman race in September 2013. I rested for 2 1/2 weeks and then went for my first run back, an easy 6 miler. About 3 miles in I felt some slight discomfort in the medial side of my left knee.. Cut it short and headed home. Ever since then I have had pain/ clicking/ popping from my knee. I have done a 12 week PT program which I think made it worse. Rest and Ice religiously, gotten an MRI with revealed a small effusion "without shelf like extension" on a small medial plica in my left knee. I have gotten 2 cortisone shots in the past 2 years which helped a lot but the pain would return after a few months. I have gone to the Speed Clinic at the University of Virginia and gotten a full bio-mechanical analysis, with nothing jumping out being wrong. I have been given the option for surgery from my Physician (who say's that he doesn't normally perform a scope for plica removal anymore). I am at a loss as what to do next and am looking for some advice on anything else to try or if I should man up and go under the knife to get the surgery. I had hopes of running a sub 3 marathon but to date I cant run more then a 15 mile week without pain.
Thanks for your reply!
