Looks like it wasn't a sit and kick for Vivian or maybe some runners tried to run away with the race pulling her along but dnfd leaving Vivian alone in front with a big margin for Betsy to catch up.
I expected to see Peris Chepchirchir the half marathon champion and Viola Chepchumba(65:51 half marathon 2016 leader) mixing it up with the leaders. Do you know what happened to them?
For Aprot that was a wise decision by the federation not to run her and especially seeing how much task she has ahead at the Olympics with the Ethiopians running great times.

Not so fast! Altitude vs sea level. Trust me, Vivian is good though honestly I doubt if in the same league as Ayana. Her time is perhaps stadium(championship) record or comes close to that. Almost forgot this is a different stadium from the one normally used for trials and national championships. That means it is stadium record since it is the first time trials are held on that track in Eldoret which happens to be at a higher altitude than Nairobi where trials and national championships have been held up until this year. In comparison, Alice Aprot who just ran 30:26 a few days ago in South Africa(sea level) had run 31:41 twice on the national stadium in Nairobi. So I would say that Vivian is capable of at least 30:2x at sea level, which puts her in medal contention(maybe bronze).
The top 10 in tge Ethioian trails all run under 31.
Ayaba 30.07
Ethiopia a clean sweep may be?

Cheruiyot wouldn't even have made the top 3 in the Japanese olympic trials with that kind of time.
I really don't know wjat to make of Saina. I've neber considered her to the the top tier but since she made it, we'll just havw to wait.
I expected a team of Viviam, Alice and Peris.
I wonder what happened to her.
All in all, we have two very good athletes on tje team.
Now, Burka was second to Ayana. I think Cheruiyot can handle her. I dont see her as a big threat.
The task remains for handling Ayana and in my opinion, Alice is the person.
We will see.
Not bad!
For.once, AK used their brains and sent Alice. Nice move!

A victim of altitude, maybe. Its happened to her before, I think in 2012 Olympics trials though I think was stomach upset or something like that.
What was the altitude of the race?
Was it over 7,000 ft.?
This was a great performance if over 7,000 ft.

Chesire in 3rd ran 30:41 on the road last year (top of the world rankings)- these are very very good athletes.
No idea on the circumstances of this race in particular but don't write these girls off just yet.
Alice will trouble Ayana, mark my words. And Vivian will out kick Burka for the Bronze. Betsy? Maybe she brought her A game because Eldoret is her hometown? I agree with NativeSon that she just isn't in the other ladies' league. Hope she proves me wrong.

It won't be that easy.

Nonsense. Betsy is good.

Not quite. Hengelo is at sea level. Eldoret, on the other hand ...
Eldoret is a city in western Kenya. It is the capital and largest city in Uasin Gishu County. Lying south of the Cherangani Hills, the local elevation varies from about 2100 metres above sea level at the airport to more than 2700 metres in nearby areas (7000–9000 feet).

12 women at the Ethiopian 10k trails beat Vivian's time
It might be an Ethiopian sweep this year

And that was w/ out Genzebe Dibaba and Meseret Defar
Vivian might be able to mix it up with them, but once Ayana goes, she's gone
Nice photos El Keniano.
I am surprised that so many people didn't attend like Peris Jepchirchir.
Betsy was Saina was lucky. Many of the heavy hitters weren't there.
There is no way Ethiopia will sweepbthis race. Geleta would have to work her heart out to beat Vivian. I do not think she will.
Vivian sounds very confident of her training.
She says she loves the way her body is responding.
Betsy Sainas best time for 10000 is 30.48 - I believe. She is capable of a faster time for sure. It's good she finally went over to Nike and left Scott Simmons of ADP (Colorado Springs) in the dust! She's doing a lot better since she moved to Oregon to train. American Distance Project is such a sketchy outfit with Simmons at the helm. He runs it as a non profit. Lol.
