Am I screwed? I'd kick myself right now (if I could) for not listening to my instincts earlier. On Thursday, I did a last workout on the track. Felt good the whole time. It was only afterwards that I noticed my hamstring started to bother me and when I got in the car, it really ached, more so than usual. I decide to take the next two days off. Felt better yesterday but in the middle of the night I felt a tightness in my hamstring. I had a race this morning (5k). I told myself as soon as I felt something, I would stop. I did about a mile warm up and felt fine. The gun goes off and about .90 mile into the race (I had already done 2 turns by then) I was going a 7:10 pace (yeah, no snarky remarks please) and all of sudden I felt a twinge in the hamstring then a cramp and a pop! All within a few seconds. I stopped and felt the pain when I started walking. I had to drop out...
I've had a hamstring pull in my other leg in the past but never felt a "pop" like this until today. I'm going to call my Sports Med Doc tomorrow. Not much I can do right now but RICE. I'm a bit bummed b/c I felt pretty good going into the race. Please share your stories if you've ever had a hamstring injury so we can all learn from it.
P.S. I think it all started when I went hiking a couple weeks ago with my daughter and we ran a small part of it b/c the next day, my piriformis/hamstring was really sore. I keep forgetting that I'm not getting any younger..:(
