Isn't that exaggerating a bit?
The dude ran a race and then fell.... I don't get it. He didn't make me proud, he fell and lost?
Your quote made me super excited to watch the race on YouTube and then THAT?! If anything, I'm let down.
How about... Jager runs the race of a lifetime? Jager gives it his all?
Because our distance running culture and journalism is full of groupthink and fanboyism and false worship. Yes, Jager is a tremendous athlete. Muscular as f-, handsome as f-. But it doesn't mean all that much because our civilization is in deep trouble for years and years and only the most vipersome and blind of children isn't perturbed by the important matters.
Yes, Jager has been destined for greatness since he left high school. If you hadn't been paying attention back in 08, 09, 10, then you are a band-wagoning noob.
Our culture is screwed up. Are we so empty that we just celebrate times, accolades and beating some other race and nationality? This culture has produced zero running art. Not one person has spoken up ever against advertising disintegrity and immorality, or the same for mass media, the corruption of our law and institutions, professions, societal funnels and places of authority. This generation, full of those who call themselves Christians but they are nowhere near being Christians. That stake claims of Americanism but are betrayers of American values. Groupthink, greed, arrogance prevail. If you don't protect the fountains of integrity and beauty against all the forms of iniquity, then you don't deserve all the prizes of love, glory, beauty, triumph, health, fitness, liberty, freedom. You think you are gaining beauty out in trails and working hard running, but collectively the best that can be said is that our community is full of cowardly followers, lazy of mind moral soul and art, freeloaders. This is true for the legions of bourgeosie on this site, they are entangled with the rest of problematic Western culture. Verily, a generation like this, running faster than ever, profanes the name of running. There will be no victory in a time like this.
