Lame to be using the device, even if I can't stand it when people recline too. My legs are long enough I can just leave them in a normal sitting position and they'll be in a person's back if they want to recline. I'm stubborn enough to leave them there till they give up and re-adjust their seat. Pretty passive-aggressive, I know, but they have the option to recline if they want to feel my knees and I have the option to adjust my position if I don't want to feel their back.
I have two opinions. 1) Seats in coach shouldn't recline. If you want a comfortable, reclining seat, fly first class. Or 2) If you don't want the person in front of you reclining, making your flight uncomfortable, fly first class.

Folks thinking that they have some right to prevent others from reclining their seats are lame beyond words. The airlines have reclining seats for guess what reason...so folks can recline.
Glad I could clear that up for you.
I'm 6'2" with a 35 inch inseam and have never found an economy class seat where the person in front of me reclining puts their seat into my knees. How far down are you people slumping?

Folks who think I should sit uncomfortably so they can recline their seats are beyond lame, those who defend those lame fools suck this lameness out of their asses. Glad to set you straight on this fact.
This is the fault of the airlines. They made reclining seats for a reason and then put them so close together they are not reasonable to use.
I don't like it when people in front of me recline but I'm not going to start a fight about it.

You, my little friend, have no brain, no honor, no guts, and no sense. Indeed, it would seem that the only thing that you have is an overabundance of sub-optimally allocated protoplasm which, had you any honor at all, you would immediately proceed to donate to a more worthy cause - earthworms for example.
You, my airline industry shill, are a wee man, who likes to sit in the rear row in order to enjoy the aroma of your fellow passengers. As another poster stated, if the airlines want seats to recline, give the passengers behind them room to sit comfortably. Enough of this Tom Foolery...peace Holmes.
I think the airlines should measure all passengers, and have them sit according to their size
I would love to know what % of knee defender users then go ahead and recline their own seats? Selfish b*st*rds!
Also, anyone that whines about not being able to use their laptop in coach on a flight has got to get a life (or read a magazine). Seriously how much work are you going to get done in such a situation regardless of whether the person in front of you reclines or not. Most are just people who like to pretend to be working due to their insecurity.

Gonna have to agree. It is all about the ugly in people showing itself under stressful conditions. Airline seating is packed. Nobody is comfortable (in coach). But the Knee Defender crowd thinks that they are more important then everyone else.

Same here! I am tall and I have no problem fitting in economy seats when the seat in front is reclined. I think that it is a sign of territorial behavior that people make a stink about others reclining. I was on a intl flight seated in econ plus once where after dinner service had finished i reclined to watch tv and sleep and the person in front of me took her tray table and bashed it repeatedly in to my seat back. When I turned to ask her what on earth was happening she yelled at me for not knowing "plane etiquette" (I fly 30k miles/year, btw). she went on about how she was tall and didn't have room. when she stood up, i realized that while she was tall for a woman, she was way shorter than me - she was maybe 5'10 at best - and I had loads of leg room in my seat even with the person in front reclining, so she was clearly just being a d1ck. frankly, if she kindly asked me not to recline I probably would have consented, but her first and only reaction was to freak out so i wasn't going to budge.
so basically, people are just being territorial d1cks for the most part and they can easily stop slouching so that they fit in the seat. of course, if you're like 6'6 or bigger then you're going to have problems no matter what.
I figure eople you can pick either of the following options, but not both:
1. cheap ticket
2. lots of space
Don't select (1) then get on the plane and freak about about not having (2).
People act like children on planes and are unable to share space. The only solution is to stop any seat from reclining.
Potential Solution: If you don't want the person in front of you to recline, ask them at beginning of flight the amount of money it would take for them to agree not to do so voluntarily. I'm guessing $5 would be sufficient for most. In fact, just offer $5 from the start. Maybe go to $10 if they negotiate. If they want more than that, you have to decide how much it's worth to you. This way, both parties come to an agreement instead of using a device to force your way with no consent from the other party.

Really good point. I'm sure they were designed when there were fewer rows and more room between seats. Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to restrict the amount the seat went back, in fact I think that's the case in newer planes.
I take Amtrak whenever possible. Lot's of leg room and the seat reclines by sliding forward so it doesn't impinge on anyone else's legroom.
