... and word is Rupp's aiming to run fast. BU's Elite Mile at 3:50 p.m. Jan. 26; #NBIndoorGP is Feb. 2.

If he can run 3:57 off bad pacing, he should be able to run in the low 3:50's with decent pacing.
The interesting thing is that Rupp is using indoor mile racing to prepare for his outdoor campaign.
This strategy worked out pretty good for him in 2012. I'm all for it. I grew up running indoor miles in New England, and man it was a blast. Sharpen your elbows and may the toughest, smartest guy win.
He'll run fast at BU, but it's all in the service of his 2013 plan.

The BU track is a place where 4:02 milers go 3:57. If the pacing is good and he's on top of his game I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3:50 or so. Should be a great race, that facility is awesome.
3:50 is expecting way too much. 3:55 would be a PR and a decent indoor mile.
This is another reason why Rupp is the best american runner. While the other pros are powdering his noses he is racing off-distance on both coasts.

TOO MANY OF OUR OTHER ELITES ARE TRAINING FOR ANOTHER 10 MONTHS BEFORE RACING.
LAGAT, CENTRO (plans for 5 indoor races), ANDREWS are way better.
Always love seeing Rupp come down to the mile, will be interesting to see what he can do on the little banked track up there in Boston.
Any idea who else will be in the fast heat? I believe it was won around 3:55 last year

Rich Peters, who was 2nd at NCAA indoors last year and has a PR of 3.57, will probably be the only terrier actually in the race. Terrier Invite is a huge meet; the top collegian millers in the northeast should be there.

Yeah I agree the first race wasn't expected to be that great. I look at centro's mediocre 800 and dorian Ulreys 4:04 in the same meet along with the NOP women losing to Cain and I think they are definitely training through it. Sure Salazar trains Cain too, but he is for sure going much easier on her. I expect Rupp to show the really good college milers what's up. 3:53.5 sounds about right.
From what I read, Rupp went through 1200m in 2:53 last week. I can definitely see him sub-3:50 if the pace is done right.
3:55 or lower would be great. Let's not set expectations for 3:50.
Great to see guys peak twice and race a fair amount. I think it gives Rupp confidence in the summer.
Prediction: 3:52.9. Nice one, Rupp. The way this guy stays injury-free is truly awesome. Have to give credit where credit is due.
