I am a junior who decided to make the switch from golf to cross country this fall. I have ran indoor and outdoor track since freshman year, and I had pretty good sophomore pr's (4:26 and 9:48). I trained all summer and got up to 65 mpw, but one mistake I made was that I didn't do anything other than distance. When I came back for preseason, we started doing interval and threshold workouts over cross country terrain, and team mates I used to easily beat in track were finishing ahead of me. On monday, I had my first race, and I did terrible. I ran somewhere in the mid 19's. (to be fair, the course was very hilly). I was with the lead pack for two miles, but then I fell off. One thing I noticed was that I fell behind on all the uphills and downhills. I had faster track pr's than everyone in the race, but I still got beat by a wide margin. Am I just more of a track person, or with hard work, will I be able to improve at cross country.
