Rod DeHaven's Son Addison Is the Only Sophomore to Make Footlocker Finals This Year

When I say only sophomore i'm talking about on the boys side.

On the girls side - 2 freshman and 5 sophmores made it out of the 40 qualifiers.

yeah, his real name is 'not futsum'. he recently posted a workout predictor thread for 5k.

The year 2000--the curtain seems to fall on American long distance running as we only qualify one man, Rod DeHaven, for the marathon. The year 2000--the stage is being prepared for a revival of American long distance running, as Ritz, Webb, and Hall take the top three spots at Footlocker. Now, another DeHaven surfaces, as Ritz and Hall will tangle again, this time in the marathon. Nice to see.

Some crazy a** names qualifying from that area. Smoragiewicz or Zeinasellassie FTW!!!

Hellebuyck? Joe Lemay, Brantley, Williams, Coogan...We had a slew of 2:14 marathoners in their mid-to-late thirties. Lemay had the fastest seed time at 2:13.

Does Culpepper regret not jumping to the marathon earlier? It was two years later that, at 30, he debuted with 2:09; never ran faster. Would that have been different had he started at 26? Would he have been the clear winner in 2000?

Congratulations to the DeHaven family on young Addison.

It is interesting that at the Sydney Olympic Marathon, Rod DeHaven's time was less than three minutes faster than USA female finisher Christine Clark.

I think Rod had food poisoning or was sick that day in Sidney. I'm sure his other accomplishments/times are faster than Christine's. This thread is about a promising young runner....

When I first got back into running in the early 2000s, I loved to read Rod Dehaven's training he posted. He was self coached so I am sure he has helped his son immensely.

For all you treadMill haters, Dehaven always did his 5 mile morning run on the treadmill in the winter.

As far as South Dakota having some great runners, WHAT THE HE11 ELSE IS THERE TO DO OUT THERE????

There really isn't much to do in South Dakota but that certainly doesn't make it good for running. It is cold for 6 months of the year, windy for the whole year, extremely flat and boring on the Eastern half, and Brookings doesn't know how to plow its streets in the winter. Addison is co-coached by Chris Gruenhagen, coached by Rod at SDSU, and Rod himself.

rod's son is actually coached by one of his former athletes from sdsu. so the lines of communication are more than likely very open.
