I guess I'll preempt racerdb to say I'm sorry you weren't able to go yesterday in the Monumental Half-marathon, the conditions were perfect, but as they say, discretion is the better part of valor.
Yep, I learned a new word yesterday. Patellar tendinitis. Anyone have any experience with it?
It started with a slight knee pain early last week. Didn't think much of it. Backed off my training as I was into a super taper mode for the HM. The pain was there in my easy short runs progressing to where I was very concerned Friday night. Did a little 20 minute run in Indy then walked to the expo and the elite meeting. I thought everything would be ok in the morning and the race would go off as usual. I hadn't taken any Aleve since May but I took some just to help out with the pain a bit.
Saturday I did a little test run around the Monument Circle in the dark at 6:00. Immediately I knew I was never going to be able to run 13 miles. Went back to my room. I was kind of thinking I may have wussed out so I went back down at 6:30 and did another run with some faster strides. Nope, no way. So I went back to my room, packed my shit and drove home before the race even started. Had no desire to stick around and watch.
So right now who knows how this will play out. Can I train thru this? Should I train thru this? My son-in-law PT who did the x-rays gave me some stretching/drills/heat/ice routines to do. Just ordered a knee strap thingy. I think I'm in pretty good shape but will I be able to maintain this level for the next few weeks to get me to Tallahassee? I already have my plane ticket. Guess we'll see. I know nothing about this...
Have a good week,
Dave
