FM vs. Saugus vs. Saratoga

It'll be FM, just like always

It's gotta be a NY team- that's all.

The reason why Saugus never wins the national championship is because they peak during CIF-SS Finals and at State. NXN is just another invitational to them.

FM just got a transfer from CBA who was very highly ranked. 10th grader I think.

With this addition they will be untouchable.

i see no reason to think saugus will win this year; fm should dominate.

i think fm/toga/saugus in that order BUT saratoga could possibly win if they pull it together and everyone does really well the sameday

I'm gonna go with FM and Saugus battling it out, with Saratogo third. FM did get that transfer, but if Saugus has its top five all running well on the same day, I'm going with them winning. Mahoney, Frankian, and Bulder are all capable of running with AT LEAST FM's #2 runner, and if Jenay Jauregui is what people says she is (#4 or #5), that's going to give Saugus a huge advantage on FM and Saratoga. Saugus looks better than anyone 1-3, it just depends on who's #4 and #5 is better.

Agreed, Mahoney, Frankian and Bulder are the best top 3. Mahoney is a very consistent runner (even when she ran through a stress fracture for the team!) and will be up there. It is going to come down to the #4 or #5.

Maybe they just need to adjust there peak a week or two. The previous Saugus teams, especially the 2008 team, are just as good as FM, if not better. The conditions in Oregon aren't the best for California teams, plus like you said, they always peak early.

Saratoga all the way, just too deep this year. FM graduated their leaders, they won't win this year!

Why do you cali wimps keep complaining about the conditions in Oregon? That is no excuse, the best teams win NXN each year, the best teams are from NY.

FM has something that Saugus does not have.... Saugus has no one named Aris.....huge difference.

Those Saugus super 3200m track times mean absolutely nothing in early December. If Aris had those kids we wouldn't be having this discussion.... a team with those 3200pr'should be untouchable. SS has something that Saugus does not have... SS has someone named Kranick... end of conversation!

Saugus has something else that none of the NY teams have. Week after Week of high level competition leading up to the state meet, finishing only 1 week prior to NXN.

The NY teams get to rest and regroup prior to the national meet.

How is Saugus's schedule any more difficult than the top teams in NY? FM and Saratoga race against each other through out the season. They both have four or five mandatory meets plus Manhattan in the weeks leading up to NXN which they can train through, but so can Saugus...

Doesn't FM and Saratoga get a break though between regionals and NXN? Saugus has to run CIF Prelims, CIF Finals, State, and NXN back-to-back. Southern Section is also way more competitive, which brings up the reason distance runner's from Southern California don't fare well at the state track meet, seeing they have to run hard 3 or 4 times in a row...

NY has leagues, sectionals, states, feds, regionals, NXN all in consecutive weeks. Most teams skips Feds now because of NXN but either way you can hardly say California has it worse.

Saugus is overrated! We all know it! A true team like Saratoga would crush them at every girl! I bet they don't even make NXN this year! Go Toga!!!

Saugus also has their #7 from last year, Nicole Pennick, and Jenna Vincej, a JV cross country runner who ran 55.x in the 400. And at least one frosh, Abigail Frankian, a little sister who ran a 10:43 3000 this spring.

But those 3200 PRs for Mahoney, Bulder and Frankian are from 2009. Mahoney didn't run track this year, focusing instead on academics; Bulder had some health issues, from which she has apparently recovered.

Girls teams from other regions might fare a little better at NXN if NY teams were limited to 9-12th graders and if the course were laid out and built by someone other than a NY coach.

Teams from CA might fare a little better if they wore spikes occasionally during the season (spikes are banned in CA cross country); big change running in flats on hard courses all season and then running a race in spikes over mushy grass.

Still, FM and Saratoga have to go into the season as favorites. They went 1-2 last year and return strong teams.
