Tom Hopkins from Haverford School joins the team as a sprinter and long jumper who competed in the AAU Junior Olympics.
PRINCETON, N.J. (6/8/10) – Princeton men’s track & field and cross country coaches Fred Samara and Steve Dolan are proud to announce Princeton’s 2010 recruiting class.
“We are very pleased with the variety of event areas in which this class excels,” head track & field coach Fred Samara said. “I’m confident that this group will play a major role in our team’s future success.”
“This is an extremely talented group of student-athletes both in the classroom and on the playing field,” head cross country coach Steve Dolan said. “We’re looking forward to helping them chase their potential here at Princeton.”
DISTANCE & MIDDLE DISTANCE
The Tigers will add seven talented runners to an excellent core of returners in this event group. The newcomers include: Chris Bendsten, Garrett Rowe, Tyler Udland, Jonathan Vitez, Michael Williams, Alejandro Arroyo Yamin and Jason Dzuranin.
Bendsten from Wolcott High School finished an impressive sixth place at the Nike Indoor Nationals and was a Footlocker National Finalist in cross country. He ran a personal best of 8:21.79 in the 3000 meter run at the Penn Relays.
Rowe has competed in both the Nike Indoor and the Nike Cross Nationals. A graduate of Mountain View High School, Rowe ran a personal best in the 3200 at the CIF California State Track & Field Championships with a time of 8:55.71.
A native of Millburn, N.J., Udland has competed in the Foot Locker Nationals in cross country and the Nike Indoor and Outdoor Nationals in the two mile. His personal best in the 3200 is 8:59.80 and he has run 4:13.83 for 1600 meters.
Vitez from Haddonfield Memorial High School holds the New Jersey Indoor State Meet record in the 3200. He ran 8:58.81 to win that event in 2010. He has a best of 4:15.92 in the 1600-meter event which he set at the NJSIAA Group Championships in 2009.
Williams from Bellevue in Washington specializes in the 800 and 1600. He recorded a personal best time of 1:53.69 at 800 meters to win the 2010 Washington State Championships. Williams also won the league title in the 1600 with a personal best time of 4:15.53.
Arroyo Yamin from Culver Academies in Indiana ran a PR of 15:10.88 in the 5000 at the Nike Indoor Nationals finishing in third place. Arroyo Yamin has a best of 9:08.40 in the 3200 from the Indiana State Meet this season.
Dzuranin, a graduate of Steinert High School in Hamilton, N.J., had an excellent spring season. He improved his 800-meter personal best to 1:54.22 and was a state finalist in that event. He has also run a number of sub-50 second splits in the 4x400 meter relay.

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/25/10) - The Princeton women's cross country and track and field coaches Peter Farrell and Ed Roskiewicz are proud to announce Princeton's 2010 recruiting class.
Coach Farrell is eagerly awaiting the arrival of 17 highly touted recruits. “We bolster some already strong areas but fill in some needs – such as the javelin and discus.”
DISTANCE
The four-time defending Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Champions will be boosted by four long distance runners; Theresa Devine, Clare Gallagher, Marisa Cummings and Katie Skinner.
A native of San Rafael, Calif., Theresa Devine will join the distance corps and the cross country squad. Competing for Marin Catholic in Northern California, Devine is a Footlocker Finalist and ran 10:39.25 in the 3200 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions in May 2010.
A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Gallagher posted a 5k time of 18:05 at the Colorado State Cross Country Championship in 2008. She also ran the 1600 in 5:06 during her junior year at Cherry Creek High School.
Marisa Cumming from Corona del Mar High School competed in the Nike Cross Nationals and has a three-mile personal best time of 17:18. Last spring at the CIF Southern Section Division Finals she finished the 1600 in 4:58.34. This year Cummings hit 10:34.95 in the 3200. She will join elder sister Sarah, an All-America and cross country team captain.
Katie Skinner from Riverhead, N.Y., recorded a 4:59.46 in the mile this past January and ran the 5k at the New York State Championship in November and posted a time of 17:51.20.
MIDDLE DISTANCE
The middle distance corps will be bolstered by six incoming freshmen, four of which will also join the cross country team. They include: Molly Higgins, Henrietta Miers, Kacie O’Neil and Kristin Smoot.
Higgins should also be a standout in the middle distance group of the track team. The Randolph High School graduate brings the best time in the 800, a mark of 2:11.7 and has also run at 4:58 in the 1600 at the NJAC Conference Championship.
Also having a tremendous time in the 800 is Miers. A native of Bronxville, N.Y., Miers has a personal best of 2:12.56 in the 800.
Kacie O’Neil from Conestoga High in Berwyn, Pa., brings a time of 2:12.59 in the 800. She also runs the 1600 and 400, and has PR’s of 5:07.88 and 57.1, respectively, and has competed at the Nike Indoor Nationals.
Smoot from Bernards High in Bernardsville, N.J., who has a PR of 2:14.26 in the 800 and a 58.31 in the 400 set in February at the NJSIAA Group Championships.
Additionally, Brooke Biederman and Caroline Bazinet will join the middle distance group. Biederman from Horace Greeley in Chappaqua, N.Y. She ran a personal best of 1:40.10 in the 600 this past February at the Section I Class A Championships and a 2:21.13 in the 800 at the Westchester County Championships last spring. Out of Choate, Conn., Bazinet has posted a time of 10:35 in the 3k and 18:50 in the 5k.
