Dave "Shady" O'Grady of Bentley College, now Bentley University, won the 5K at the Rhode Island College (RIC)invitational in 2004 wearing a full-body sprinter's spandex speed suit. I believe his time was around 15:50, but I'd have to look it up. There wasnt really anybody running that fast at the meet.
Mehdi Baala from france runs the 1500 in a speed suit all the time

I don't know though whether Head Coach Ed Lyons at Bentley approved Mr. O'Grady's choice of attire for the 12.5 lap outdoor 5,000 meter run.

Worked a water station at 1999 Chicago Marathon, the year Kannouchi(?) broke the world record for the first time. Saw probably a top 25 female runner in speed suit.
I can't say that I've ever worn a speedsuit in a race, but the more I think about it, the less I can see any reason not to. Isn't the only difference between a speedsuit and flappy shorts and a singlet the amount of wind resistance you will generate? Why doesn't everyone wear these? You'll just have a little bit of extra energy at the end, right?

I have this theory where speed suits have the opposite effect because they restrict movement in your joints, so you need to put out more energy to run fast because of this. (Try running anything fast in long tights, it's tough). But I think it may only be true for tights that extend past your knees.
I ran a 100 mile ultra in a speedsuit, but I think the aerodynamic benefits were negated by the 3 bushel fanny pack I wore.
If men wanted to set records, they might consider wearing bun huggers/speedos alone, but the negative psychological impact from crowd laughing at them would likely outweigh any actual air resistance benefits.
Any cycling race :)
they look ridiculous, just wear shorts + vest
