Does anyone here go out for a run at 2AM, 3AM, or 4AM? Sometimes if my sleep schedule is messed up because I am not working and sleeping until 1PM I end up doubling and doing an easy run at 3AM LoL. It's legal, but if the police drive by in some neighborhoods they may think it's kind of strange. Any thoughts? |

The latest I've gone for runs is around 10 or 11 pm... And the earliest is 4 or 5 am... but I must try some of these 2am runs you're speaking of |

I do it every morning because I have to be at work at 6 a.m. for my twelve hour days. No one is up at that ungodly hour, and you will not be messed with except by animals. Out. |

I do it on occasion. There's not much else to do if you have insomnia. |

I once ran at midnight because my friends all ditched me and I didn't want to take a cab. Made that day an unexpected Triple. (30 mins in the morning, 5 x mile on the track in the afternoon, 30m in the late evening) I also once went out for a run just to clear my head after a girlfriend broke up with me at like 2 am. I needed to get out and clear my head. |

I wish it was safe for me to run at that hour! Guys are lucky, in that they can do stuff like that without worrying about getting attacked or something. I just have to stick to the treadmill, if I must run at a weird hour. |

I haven't done it as I was concerned over the legality of running past midnight. But now that you've assured me I wouldn't be breaking any laws I will give it a try! |

I run at 4 am five days a week, before work. There is very little traffic in my area, but I have to stay be very alert because the people that are driving often are not yet fully awake or attentive. Are there actually any places in The US were it is "illegal" to run at night? I find that difficult to believe. On the other hand, it's illegal for me to pump my own gas. What do I know. |

when I return from int'l travel, I often run for a couple fo day at 2:30 or 3am (standard is 5:30am for me). Its just the paperboys and the skunks. San Francisco streets are lit, and too dark to be on trails in GG Park. I am amazed at the number of women I see in the morning when still dark in GG Park running alone AND WITH HEADPHONES. A disaster waiting to happen. |

During the summer. I ran at 8pm and 2-3am every day. I slept from 10am till 6pm. I had no life, and it's hot during the day. |

I've done it. It just depends where you run, but usually the "bad guys" are in bed or too drunk at that point. |

Try living in Phoenix for a summer. If you're not starting your long runs by 3:30 or 4 in July, you're asking for trouble. Not only is it hot as hell, but with no DST the sun is up by 5-5:30. |

I've started LSDs after midnight, that went past 2 AM. It's actually a nice time to run through neighborhoods, since it's nice and quiet. The only real problem is that you're running during "closing time." Just assume everyone driving at that hour is drunk, and you'll be fine. And you will occasionally be stopped by cops, even while fully decked out in running gear. The most dangerous thing I have to deal with at that hour is the doughnut shops that are making their days batches. We're talking doughnuts that fall apart as you handle them because they're so fresh. I pass three of them on my 20-mile route. |

I know someone who runs mostly at 4 am. he also hits the track at 10 pm, in the city. He does most of his mileage (I've never seen him at the track) at about 8-9 minute pace, in a full warm up suit, even in the summer, for several hours 2+. I am starting to see him now that it gets cold / dark and there is nobody in the park we run in. I remember last year running in about a foot of snow. I was running about 6:30 pace (steady) because it was freezing, and I wanted to get it over with. I saw him, and ran with him. I almost died because we were running so slow! Anyway, props, he just ran 2:25 in nyc so whatever hi is doing it works. |

i was out for a late night run, like 1 or 2 and the cops pulled me over and asked if i'd seen some guy they were searching for. on my way back i saw a big tussle with cops down a side road and figured they must have found their man. |
