NAIA schools moving to NCAA D2

The NAIA is dead.

Rumor has it the GSAC was already seriously considering the move as well. Obviously they didn't meet the deadline this year, but losing schools like Cedarville, Malone and Simon Fraser, along with a pile of others, should push them and others out as well.

Losing those three schools alone is a major hit to the NAIA. I'm sure University of British Columbia will follow soon as well.

So will there be a marathon for d2?

Simon Fraser may have a tough time adjusting to NCAA D2, what with the rules and drug testing and all.

Nice pick up for DII. How many years will those guys sit out of the national meet (1, 2, or 3)?

Young Harris was/is not NAIA. It was/is NJCAA.

Transitioning into a four-year school forced it to attempt the change to NCAA D2.

It might be a four year process

there was a mass exodus from NAIA to D2 back in the late 80s by many of the smaller, state schools in the midwest and southwest. Schools such as Adams State, Emporia, Fort Hays State, Pittsburg State, Texas Southern, Prairie View A & M, Jackson State, etc, etc, etc. leaving mostly smaller, religious schools.

there was also and exodus in the late 90's with a large number of naia schools that went either DII or DIII out of the pacific northwest. Most seem to be doing quite well in the ncaa division. Most of these ended up making their own NCAA conferences with the move. I am sure I will miss some but here are a few.
