Not surprised in the least. If you weren't in shape to run sub-3hr for 26miles and were under pressure to do so would you just head out there and make an ass of yourself? Shit no. Nobody would. It isn't like tanking a 5000m on the track.

actually the guy I was looking at probably just completed the full but the timing company listed his result as for the 50k since that's what he registered for, which is why it looks suspicious. but feel free to rant in your holier than thou best... Mr. 'Er....'

I'm merely asking that people not point fingers and name innocent individuals in a now-infamous thread dedicated to a guy who just might prove to be the greatest cheat in the history of North American distance running.

You're right about one thing, though: my tone was condescending and rude. I apologize for that. I just hate to think that dedicated, hard-working runners are going to be named publicly as suspected cheats because of one man's unbelievably persistent cheating. Perhaps I could have said that, instead of sounding off so harshly. My apologies.

Is the dog capable of a sub-3 ?

Look for a story about marathon cheats in the May/June issue of Marathon & Beyond. It will not feature or mention Kip, but is worth a look.

Since this thread grew so quickly, I'm guessing he won't. It seems like this thread became the "official" thread and for him to start another one would have been redundant. Pure speculation on my part, though.

There's a reason I put the word redemption inside quotes. You are absolutely right. There is nothing he can do to undo the cheating that he's guilty of. He could still sway some opinions of his core character by coming clean, confessing and explaining how he cheated, followed by a commitment to clean up his act and to become transparent in his future racing endeavors (bib visible, start at the front, hit all mats, post Garmin history, etc.). Posting some slower but honest and earned 3:20's would actually improve his situation from my point of view.

But my guess is this isn't going to happen. Instead, when he gets himself into something close to 3:00 shape, he'll race to "redeem" himself. And if he posts a sub 3:00 or something close to it (accompanied by a valid sounding excuse) all the Kipettes will complain about what a bunch of unfair a holes all of us here are.

The first 1 is of me (wearing the black stocking cap) running with my friend Kevin Ballantine (wearing the white headband), who was trying to break 3:00 and finished with a 3:04, and our other friend Danielle Crockford (in red), the women's winner who ran a 2:59. The 3:00 pacer, Brian McMahon (wearing the yellow shirt in the Litton pic), told me Litton never passed him either.

I dropped off the pace of Kevin and Danielle around mile 5 and ran the half in 1:32:59 and Litton never came by me through 12 miles (where the half and full courses split off).

None of us recall being passed by Litton and yet note the picture of him, late in the race, past mile 20, where he has somehow gotten in front of Danielle and Brian.

perhaps he just joined on right in front of the 3hr pacer in the yellow shirt? of course he finished in 2:55:20. he had a 5:04 difference between gun and chip

I'm secure in how I feel about his cheating. Nothing anybody says could sway me to feel otherwise. I can't control if others might be swayed to feel differently about him - they can feel what they want. And this: there are probably folks out there that would take his side even when presented with the mountain of evidence that proves his guilt! Don't get caught up in what others think.

The only 'redemption' he would derive from a legit sub 3 is what anybody else would get - he earned it. He'd show, on that day, he could do it.

I wasn't going to, but I'll respond.

Let's start by giving credit where it's due - the extraordinary work of the LR board has outdone itself in uncovering his long trail of deceit. I knew of some things but have been swept up & along as more & more info about his cheating was dug up. I want to thank everybody that's worked so hard to rat this guy out! I've followed up on many of the leads, corresponding with event directors, newspaper reporters, friends and Kip to get the facts squared away. Probably the only thing I know that this board doesn't is what's in correspondence between Kip & myself. And that's the way it'll remain.
