Rojo says he might start a Kip Litton thread but only 1 and only 1 thread

I was looking at that race last night. It says he ran the first leg of about 2 miles at a 5:39 pace, then biked faster than everyone, then ran the last leg at 7 minute pace. The first leg is an out and back and the bike leg is a multi loop course. I could easily see shenanigans taking place during those two legs. If no one beats me to it, I'll post the details from athlinks when get home

Well, Lance may have been wrong - it is about the bike. Kip at age 45 blew - and I mean blew - away the field on the bike leg of this duathlon in 2008 averaging 25 mph. Maybe the tri guy could elaborate on the conditions and the topography of the course as 25 mph on a flat course is not uncommon. But no one else came close. Biked over 2 mph faster than the overall winner, 7 minutes on the next guy in his AG who led him on the run. Maybe he's a great biker, but the gap seems very large to be outbiking younger guys.

This just keeps getting more amazing. Could he have cut a bike course too???!!! WOW.

This guy must really hate bib #'s. too much wind drag slows him down.

seems most pics of other runners easy to spot the dtag on shoe except for this pic two girls in pink, no bib no dtag. bandits?

Both those mileage totals look low for someone who does so well in races.

Do you think those totals include all the races he ran in 2010?

When I saw the pics from the 08 Brooksie Way 1/2 I recognized the young man running with Kip/David/Rich in this photo.

I just spoke to him and he told me he recalls the guy as someone he passed in the last half mile of the race. Also never recalled having the guy pass him anytime during the race which kip passed this young man it would have been in the second half.

I was wondering if he included the miles he skipped during races.

nationl champ races are about the only time any race official will DQ for no visible race # nowadays.

dont thin ive seen a DQ for non visible bib # at a regional usatf event.

back in the day before chip timed events, visible bib #'s were required when bib #s were helpful for keeping track of race bandits coming thru the finish chute.

I've ran a couple small marathons were race officials went thru the trouble to randomly pick spots on the course, record the bib #'s to prevent this kind of thing. but now in the day of mutiple events-in-one and thousands of runners, weve become too reliant on technology and neglet sound race management practices.

Also any race with $ for Masters or any age group should be using gun time only for prizes. a good RD knows that the runners in contention for prize money know their way around the race circuit enough to get the proper seeding.

just a side note really - its clear any age group prizes

kip'd cant come anywhere close to entry fee and travel cost incurred.

Don't see him. If you're thinking the guy in the black shirt by the mailbox, then no. Kip was already finished by the time these girls came through. There are pictures of him running at this point of the course (Dunlop St, 0.3mi from finish), but up among the top 10 guys.

25.2mph is suspicious, but not alarmingly so. Some of the top riders in the tri race (that was going on at the same time) rode slightly faster.

What is more suspicious is the huge increase in speed from one year to the next when the other competitors who did both races saw nothing like that kind of increase.

25mph on a flat course in decent conditions would be considered a very solid, but not outstanding, pace. About on a par (though comparisons are tough for a lot of reasons) with going sub-3 in a marathon. ;-)

And yes, cutting a bike course would be easy in a small race like this. All he'd have to do is ride with the slow riders and do one loop rather than two. Most triathlons have wave starts, so if he were riding with the slower riders from a later wave, he wouldn't stand out at all.

Gotta call b.s. on that running tally. Not that the loon would has any credibility to speak of anyway, but seeing the photos and the videos of him racing there's no way that dude put in a 2400mi year. Didn't happen.

It could be a factor, but unless he went from riding a beach cruiser to a time trial bike the bike alone cannot account for that kind of improvement.

You overlooked this explanation of this photograph in 'friend of a friend's original posting of this link:

"The fifth picture below was taken in the same spot - it shows more of the background for context." Kip is not in this photo.

For those who missed the context, go to the last post on page 54 and first three posts on page 55.

Regarding "other Kip photos different shoes". Shoes look the same - bright red laces - just less detail in the starting photo.

Best part of that post was showing that that 37:14 10K ... wasn't. I knew that time looked too good to be true in his athlinks.com list but there weren't chip times to show it more easily.

I know cycling and can say unequivocally Dr Kip Litton did NOT ave 25 mph for the bike leg. He isn't capable of that for more than very short stretches and certainly not 2+ mph faster than long-time friend Dave Furey, 3rd overall. Dave could beat Kip nine ways to Sunday in a straight dual w/Kip in running, cycling or duathlons. I know Gary Ruddy can ride too - no way Kip beats those two. I'd be pleased to see how Kip could hang w/the Wed nite fellas out of Lennon.
