Yeah the prize money is pretty large with RnR taking over the SA marathon. I'm right there with you on the risk/reward thing, but I don't have 4 kids either so who knows.
Keep in mind that she has only admitted to using EPO on three occasions in Feb/March 2009.
We can all speculate on how long she was really using and if if was the catalyst to the 2:30 and 2:29 prior to 2009, but that is still speculation.
What we do know is that she knowingly used PED's and got caught doing it. Unless she admits to further use there is no sanction earlier than that given. If I had raced her prior to 2009 I would be wanting a retrospective ban from the past year or two so that she would have to pay back money won etc. I wonder if this is something that civil law allows for, or if someone like Suzy looked into it when Regina got done.

Suzy's married to an attorney, right? She probably has a very firm grasp on the risk/reward of trying to go after Regina like that.
Also, it's simply not true that an athlete is clean in the absence of a positive test. Just ask Marion Jones sometime. Just like with drunk driving, the when you get caught it's probably not your first time doing it. This is confirmation enough for objective minds who care about the sport that Hunter-Galvan's big jump in performance was surely due mostly to PED use.

The bit that gets me is she was quoted as saying she only stopped using the drug "because of side effects such as headaches and stomach and chest pains".
Does this mean she would have kept on CHEATING if there were no side-effects?
She claims she didn't know the drug was EPO, but if somebody tells you about a drug that will fix your problem, you use it and you get busted, who's fault is it? Haven't you heard about athletes failing drug tests because they took a "supplement"?
She says she didn't know what it was before she bought it but she also says that she researched it after she bought it and found out what it was before she actually used it. She knew what she was putting into her body.
I actually heard about this in May and was surprised it took this long to come out. So goes the sport.
In Texas, this has been suspected for some time and you always want to applaud people when they do well. She got lots of support. In my opinion that support could have gone to others who were homegrown but here we are an accepting bunch and followed her races and wins.
Maybe I'm a little too close to all of this but my main problem was not her winning races and not even the fact that she cheated (and no, I do not buy the 3-week time line too many trips to Laredo) but it was the arrogance and disrepect shown to some of her competitors and former teammates during the years leading up to this.
Time to gloat? No, just a reminder to all that in success you meet the same people coming down that you met going up.

Moes T, have you heard of this 27th Annual All-American City 10K in Edinburg, TX.
It has come to light on NZRun.com that is where she came in contact with the elite male athlete who recommended Recormon (the EPO product).
Punters on NZRun.com are putting their $$$$ on Alene Reta the convicted Ethiopian drug cheat as that athlete contact.....he finished 2nd in that race.

I didn't make the race this year when some Europeans decided not to come to Texas and train. Bummer because my wife and I have friends there and always make the trek across the border. However, I digress.
No, the race does not drug test. As far as Reta, he came around after I was working with the Ethiopians so I am not privy to private drug talk there. I just know he was busted later and shows up at Texas races.
Re the Edinburg 10k, David does a great job with the race and in 2008 when I was last there it looked like track meet with 200m to go with 7 still in contention.

Oh the irony of calling someone stupid when you don't even understand the word. A mistake can be an intentional or unintentional. Maybe you should buy and use a dictionary before calling another person stupid. Mean and stupid is a bad combination.
