Let's reduce that outburst to a syllogism.

1. Liza Galvan-Hunter has run several impressive races in a fairly short time.

2. A world-class Chinese who ran a bunch of even more impressive races within a much smaller time frame has proven guilty of performance drug use.

3. Therefore, Liza Galvan-Hunter is guilty of performance drug use.

Guess I have no answer to that one, since the reason there's no comparison here is as far beyond your grasp as string theory.

She obviously runs some pretty high mileage and can recover much more easily from these races than most people.

If she were paying big money for drugs, Id think she'd be running faster than 2:33

Considering she has never been elite but now all of a sudden she is, it is very suspicious.

People, this woman is an Olympic Marathoner from New Zealand. She is not a newbie to marathoning.

For YEARS she struggled at the regional class level, then all of a sudden she started dropping HUGE chunks of time and made the NZ Olympic team, well into her running career. Her magic pill is undoubtedly a pill.

Until a runner tests positive, the runner is clean! Liza must be doing the proper training to accomplish what she has. I congratulate her.

I ran the following races in about 9 weeks at age 35 in 1971:

4-19 Boston 2:31.07

6-6 US Championships in Eugene 2:31.30

6-22 Over 35 Sub-Masters, Los Angeles 2:31.27

Note that the last two were 16 days apart. I raced shorter distances often as speed work during that period.

I did not even know what drugs were in those days.

After ten years of running marathons, I had a tremendous background and knew the best way for me to train and race.

Again, I congratulate Liza. She has worked hard for what she has achieved. Do not do her an injustice by accusing her of improprieties.

Liza ran the SA marathon as a training run with her husband in 2:48. I do not find her coming back a month later and running a quality performance at White Rock suspicious in the least. It's sad that instead of messages congratulating her on a PR we have this pathetic thread implying drug use.

Well now there's the part the OP left out. Hate to resort to cliches, but whoever started this f***in' thread's a retard. At that level, running more than 30 seconds a mile off your all out marathon pace is a hard training run. When I was a wee lad I could do a 20 miler at 6:00 pace every weekend "easily" and that was within 30 seconds of my marathon pace. I was doing 90 a week then.

True, innocent until proven guilty. Just like Uta Pippig, Mary Slaney, Regina Jacobs. Only they were elite for decades and managed to pull it off. Yes, they too worked their asses off, but could recover like no one else. Amazed we all were at their feats. Liza, on the other hand has been nothing but local elite her whole career. And now all of a sudden at 36 after 4 kids and a full time job, she can recover better than anybody. Makes NZ Olympic team, and runs a marathon every 2-3 months for the last 2 1/2 years with many races run in between. What other elite athlete, that is female, can pull that off. Men and women's bodies are not the same. Yes, what you did was impressive, but women just don't recover like that.

I'm wondering if you are the same person who commented likewise after the San Antonio marathon. Why the jealousy? If you were beaten by her (especially if you are a male) and you don't like it, get of your ass and get training. Sounds like sour grapes.

If the moderators decided to run an IP address check, they'd probably find the same creep behind the screen.

They are just a bunch of "wannabes and wish they weres" that are not willing to put in the miles and endure the discomfort of a fast pace.

Remove your "shackles". You might do better if you didn't put "limits" on yourself.

I ran my cooldown with her after the Dallas Race for the Cure (which she won). She was really nice and humble and didn't seem like the overly-competitive type that would take performance enhancing drugs, but that's just my own opinion. She has also had 4 kids (who are still pretty young), which could explain why she wasn't as fast in the past (she was busy having kids). Who knows? I hope she's clean because if so she is an inspiration.

Liza is very good.

For a long time, she barely trained, and I'll say, enjoyed life... In the last two years her kids have grown a little bit, and are all now in school, which opens up a lot more time to train.

The Olympic process for her was very dissatisfying. A lot of waiting and hoping.

She's tougher than nails and is probably doing more training than she ever has.

An accusation of drug use,on letsrun is worth jackshit.

Did you see that women's winner just won Toronto last month in 2:29. How does she recover for that. Could you run a pr in the marathon and 4 weeks later come within seconds of it again? And the times be blitzin for elite women.
