You make it sound like you know what you're talking about, but you're wrong.

I know that the flocast crew wanted to go interview and do a workoutthing with 1 DI program and asked the parogram to PAY THEM to do it.
You do realize that just because its a "Non-Profit" organization doesnt mean the workers cant get paid.
DURR!!!
Spoke to one of the Flotrack guys at NON. Basically they said what has already been mentioned, it started with money from family and now some meets will pay their way for coverage (for example they were pretty well integrated with the Pre-nats meet). They also bum favors off people they know in the running community. At NON they were staying with someone they knew instead of paying for hotels.
That's what officials, race organizers, media writers/photogs, etc. have been doing for 100 years. That's what makes possible so many XC, TF, RR, Marathons. There's not enuf money in our sport, you knew that too already.

I heard about purefight a few weeks ago.. but when did the gymnastics and the sailing one start up Mr. Met. and do you know of any plans for a another website to start up. Like surfing or something????
I honestly thought they had the wrestling, swimming, and running sites. Those other sites seem pretty new. I found them through google.
When you are done with your running/track career, whenever that should happen, after college like most, or later if you are one of the few talented elites, then come and help us out.
We need certified officials, writers, track crews, video, course crews, photography, timers, pit/jump/hurdle crews, you name it.
Every race/meet/marathon is short of volunteers and could use dozens more.
Don't be shy, email the race director, then come and help us out.
I've been doing it for decades and it's fun to stay involved and give back to the sport which made my life so much richer.
