We expected the first Marathon Grand Championship to be the most dramatic race of the year and the men's race more than lived up to the hype as it had an incredible blowup, an incredible finish and much more.

We can't wait for Saturday night's race which is super high in quality. Only 20 Americans in history have broken 2:10 in the marathon and only four have ever broken 2:08; the MGC will feature 21 sub-2:10 guys, six of whom have broken 2:08.

Most 44-year-olds would be thrilled to run one 5:02 mile. Not American Bernard Lagat. He just ran 26.2 of them in a row at 5:02.5 pace.  Japan's million dollar marathoner Yuta Shitara got the win in an Australian all-comers record of 2:07:50 as Zane Robertson set a a new national record for New Zealand of 2:08:19.

The Japanese Corporate Track and Field Federation’s “Project Exceed” was offering 100 million yen ($936,000) to any man who could break the 2:06:16 national record. Shitara did it with a legendary run, mowing down the field after he was dropped at 32k.

Tokyo may not have cachet of London or Boston but it's by far the best marathon for US fans to watch as it's on during prime time in the US. We get you ready for Saturday night's race.
