Jakob Ingebrigtsen injury update: back running 8km on land after Achilles surgery

If you are a fan of elite men’s distance running, you know that Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the straw that stirs the drink. Last year was a bit depressing because, outdoors, Jakob was injured and not a player on the circuit. And then on February 6, we learned Jakob had to go under the knife for the first time for Achilles surgery. How much time would he be forced to miss? Would he be out again and ineffective in 2026?

It appears not. We have good news to report.

Jakob is already up to running 8km on land. On Friday, Jakob—who was still in California—showed up at Gunn High School and ran 8k with the high schoolers at track practice. Some Mountain View runners showed up as well. He even brought some samples of the recovery drink “Smartfish” to share. Below, you can see the social media post made by his surgeon, Dr. Amol Saxena.

We hope his recovery continues to go well.
