Live Updates: See the Projected 2021 NCAA XC Qualifiers as Regional Results Roll in
By LetsRun.com
November 11, 2021
Welcome to NCAA cross country regional day. By a little after 2:30 p.m. ET this afternoon, all nine NCAA XC regionals will have been completed and we will know the full fields for the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee on November 20.
Until then, we will be using the computer program devised by friend of LetsRun Bo Waggoner to create live projections of the 2021 NCAA XC field. We will continue to update the projections throughout the day as the regional results come in.
Discuss all the action on the LetsRun messageboard: MB Official 2021 NCAA XC Regional Championships discussion thread. Who is going to qualify? Who is going to go home devastated?
3:23 p.m. ET (18/18 regionals completed) FINAL MEN’S PROJECTIONS
With the Mountain results now in, we can now project the full men’s field. There was a significant result there as Utah State and Colorado State were both projected to get in, but they only finished 8th and 9th. That’s good news for Minnesota and Gonzaga, who replace those schools in the field.

West men’s results are in — that’s 8/9 regions done (the Mountain region is done but results could take a little while to come in). Portland beat Oregon for third place, which means that, as things stand, Portland and North Carolina are in and Gonzaga and Boise State are out.

Turns out the Mountain Region results we used weren’t final yet. Our projection below didn’t change — it’s the same 31 teams — but they get in with a different order after accounting for the updated Mountain results.

We’ve got men’s results for the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Great Lakes, leaving only the Mountain and West to go. The main change here is that Michigan State beat Butler at Great Lakes, which means they get pushed in…and bump Portland out.

The Notre Dame women, who were only ranked 5th in the Great Lakes, won the regional, with Wisconsin taking second. The big news, however, was that Toledo was only 7th. That means that Toledo is now out and UConn is back in.

The results from the women’s race in the Northeast have come in, and Harvard’s upset victory has shaken things up in the projections, with Harvard bumping out UConn (who finished fourth in the Northeast). The Syracuse women grabbed the other auto from the region, while third-place Providence should get in on points.

The South Region is over. The Ole Miss and Alabama men have joined the Ole Miss and Florida State women by clinching auto spots. The FSU men were third but they have plenty of at-large points and should be dancing on their home course next week.

The first race of the day, the women’s South Region, is complete. As expected, Ole Miss and Florida State took the auto spots and Alabama (who did not run 2020 NCAA third-placer Amaris Tyynismaa) finished third. Therefore the projections remain the same as they did before regionals.
