The 2017 Oslo Bislett Games was a great track meet and we’ve got a full recap here: LRC 2017 Bislett Games Recap: Jake Wightman Pulls Off A Huge Upset, A 16-Year-Old Runs 3:56 and A Woman’s Wig Comes Off Mid-Competition

But this article will not focus on the great action on the track in Oslo. It will focus on some of the bizarre action on the track and in the field, for the meet had a few things we’ve never seen before.

First was the women’s long jump. Where this happened:

Yes, Blessing Okagbare’s wig fell off. We’ve definitely never seen that happen. For the record, they measure the jump where her wig landed.

Article continues below player.

Give Okagbare credit, she kept her composure, stayed focused and put back on her wig casually.

Women’s Steeplechase Fail
Then there was the women’s steeplechase where this happened (2 angles):

Yes, the rabbit forgot to take the water jump and it caused pre-race favorite Sofia Assefa to fall (she’d get up and recover and battle for the win before finishing second).

At a normal meet, Dafne Schippers blatantly false starting in 200m but being allowed to run (she ran under protest and was initially DQ’d after the race before being reinstated) might warrant a video, but not tonight in Oslo.

Instead, we end with the women’s 800m, where Francine Niyonsaba battled for the win:Screenshot (453)

with her bib on upside down.

On the track, two precocious Norwegian talents delighted the home crowd. Off the track, a women’s long jumper’s wig fell off during the event and a rabbit forgot to run the water jump in the women’s steeplechase and then took out the #1 seed from behind.
