BEIJING – We caught up with Usain Bolt after his 20.28 preliminary round in the men’s 200 tonight at the Bird’s Nest stadium. When talking earlier in the middle of the mixed zone with the written press, we noticed Bolt repeatedly glancing over his shoulder to watch Justin Gatlin‘s race.
As a result, we asked Bolt what he thought of Gatlin’s 20.19 victory, and Bolt said the follwoing about Gatlin, “Well he’s always impressive through the rounds. It’s not a question of what he can do. We know his ability,” said Bolt. “(I’m) just watching as always – watching everybody’s race.”
Bolt was then asked if he was confident that he’d beat Gatlin again and Bolt replied, “I’m always confident,” and that was the end of the interview.
Earlier in the interview, which is embedded below, Bolt was asked how he’s feeling as his coach had said he was dealing with soreness.
“It’s much better. I tink I am going to take an ice bath tonight again and I think tomorrow it should be good.”
Were Bolt’s comments about Gatlin a subtle dig? Decide for yourself.
