2015 USATF Marathon Championship Announces Prize Purse For The LA MARATHON LLC Hosted Race

LOS ANGELES (November 25) —LA MARATHON LLC and USA Track & Field announce today the breakdown of the $150,000 total prize purse for Americans competing in the 2015 USATF Marathon Championships, which will take place on  March 15, 2015 as an integral part of the annual ASICS LA Marathon.  American runners vying for the Championship will also be eligible for the $110,000 prize purse that is awarded to the overall winners of the ASICS LA Marathon.

The USATF Marathon Championships were last held in Los Angeles in 1994 for men, when Paul Pilkington ran 2:12:13 to claim the national title. Both men and women will compete in the 2015 edition of the championships.

For the 2015 Championships, a total prize purse of $150,000 will be equally divided between American men and women for winning or placing in the top 15. The prize monies available are as follows:

2nd:                         $15,000

3rd:                         $10,000

4th:                          $  7,000

5th:                          $  5,000

6th;                          $  4,000

7th:                          $  3,000

8th:                          $  2,000

9th:                          $  1,000

10th:                       $     750

11th:                       $     650

12th:                       $     550

13th:                       $     450

14th:                       $     350

15th:                       $     250

Elites can qualify for the 2015 USATF Marathon Championships from August 1, 2013 through February 13, 2015 with the following times:

“A” Standard to Qualify for Championships

Men – 2:15:00

Women – 2:37:00

“B” Standard to Qualify for Championships

Men – 2:25:00

Women – 2:49:00

The 10 fastest men and the 10 fastest women who submit entries prior to January 15, 2015 will receive an elite benefit package, including:

  • Domestic economy air ticket or car mileage reimbursement (@.50/mile)
  • Up to three nights double occupancy at host hotel
  • Elite hospitality package (elite pre-race dinner, use of elite hospitality suite, and race day hospitality)
  • Ground transportation (airport, training runs, race day)
  • Comp race entry

All other athletes qualifying for the 2015 USATF Marathon Championships will receive the elite hospitality package, ground transportation and a comp race entry.
