How hard would an XC running race be on a XC skiing course?

I think it would be a good idea. I was going to suggest it or something similar on the thread about the IAAF looking to make cross country running more interesting, but didn't bother to chime in. In Alaska, the high school state meet cross country course is often or usually on cross country ski courses, though not necessarily the FIS homologated courses. AllieO ran 17:05 for 5K at the state meet on the Bartlett High ski trails, which is constantly up and down short steep hills, no flats except...

Also times could be a lot faster for the 10k, 15k, and 30k than you suggest (which a lot of hobby skiers could hit even on homologate...

Min 3.06 mi, max 3.11 mi.That makes me think it's 3 miles. First, look at the minimum distance, not the average or max. Since people run tangents imperfectly, the shortest is more likely to be closest to tracking the shortest possible route. The curves easily make up the difference over a 3.0 reading - not from "int...
What track athletes did Michele Ferrari work with?

Sorry, I'm not of your opinion. To suppose all people are the same, is for me a great mistake.Physiological principles are the same, like mechanical principle are the same, but what can change the performances of a car Fiat 500 doesn't work for a Red Bull or a Ferrari Formula one, because ALREADY these car include the most advanced particulars. One question : why not all people can have the same performances, also using the same training ?Can you understand that there are different levels of quali...
Someone please break down cross country skiing, biathlon and nordic combined for running fans?

And depending on conditions classic is similar to running (note that they ski on tougher courses than XC or roads, like 100' to 150' of vertical per mile on average); nevertheless a world cup 10K classic race might be 25 to 27 minutes if conditions are decent (slower if it's on new snow or if it's super sloggy/slush). Note that classic is actually faster when it's very very cold (like below -15 F) but they don't allow rac...

TheSummerSoldier wrote: U Really Think So? wrote: No such thing as a certified XC course I think everyone knows what I mean here. My take is that there isn't a standard for XC, so someone could design a pancake flat course that is as basically as fast as a track (there are/were grass, dirt, cinder tracks that are barely slower than all-weather tracks) and certify the distance. That would be a joke to call XC though. Even the Woodward park course has a decent hill. Contrast that with XC skiing...
Seb Coe is right. Adding XC to the Winter Olympics would be AMAZING... But adding it to the summer as a relay would be a mistake

RunningOtaku wrote: XC running at the Winter Olympics- 100%! Just hold it on the XC skiing course that’s groomed for skate skiing. I run on those hard packed trails all the time. Super shoes for insulation from the cold plus spikes. Problem solved! :-) Yes, please. The cross country ski courses are homologated, requiring a certain amount of hills and total climb. The hills would make for good spectating and competition, like the Aarhus course at World Cross a couple years ago.
