I've recently stumbled upon all the old Renato Canova posts from 15 or so years ago and wanted to make a ROUGH sketch of what a 6 month Canova-Style training program would look like. It's based on what I remember reading from all his letsrun posts and from this document:

The idea is to try to capture his training program in general enough terms that it can be applied to runners at various levels. You'll notice I didn't include any specific workouts, just the type and the % of max. The % is just a rough idea of the total quality of the workout compared to the absolute highest quality effort you'll give of that specific kind of workout during this progression. It could be less volume, more recovery, slightly slower etc. You'll also notice, I didn't include easy mileage, doubles, days off, warm ups, cool downs, drills, mobility, etc. Everyone's got their own opinions on those and I'm content to let people personalize. Anyway, here you go, what do you think? Did I interpret his philosophy correctly? Can this be applied to runners at all levels? Would every runner following this GO HOME DEVASTATED!?

P.S. I don't think there's anything magical or special about Canova, or any other coach, this is just a mental exercise to understand his traning.
