Did any of you see Shaheen fall at the last water barier while on WR pace?
I saw him fall, but I thought that he was already a bit off world record pace at that point.
Yeah Shaheen was definitely off record pace before the fall. With about 400 to go I think he would have had to run 58-59 to come close to the record but he slowed noticeably as he started his last lap. Without the fall I think we would have seen a 7:56-7:58 clocking. Still an outstanding run. Kemboi dropped out? Bob Tahri as well. Bob Tahri was in about 3rd or 4th place with 2 laps to go. Anybody know what happened to him - did he hit a barrier or something? I ask because it looked like he was on his way to an 8:10 or something in that neighborhood.

Except for the fall, Shaheen ran a great race! Imagine if he didn't fall and the weather was great, would he have broken the world record? He's entered in Brussels 3k sc and a 3k sc or 3k in Rieti(not sure which), lets see what happens. Will he run in Berlin/Monaco?
I don't think the fall was worth 9 seconds. But what is so impressive is the way he just crushed the field. His dominance is incredible he runs the steeplechase so many times, yet doesn't get beat. Half the time he kills everyone and the other times he just won't let himself get beat no matter how close it is. The steeple has so many chances for disaster to strike, he fell and still ran 8:02. At some point this guy needs to be considered for AOY.
I mean I'm wondering if the Fall AND the weather could have made him unable to break the world record. What do you think he could have done without the fall and the weather? I thought I read this week he was ranked #1 overall for males in Iaaf world rankings over Bekele, but Powell was #1 earlier and Bekele

...this is before WOrld Champs and before Zurich, so it will be udpated. Shaheen could be athlete of the year, but it depends on how the rankings are adjusted. Shaheen and Bekele are goin for WR's next week in Brussels, what about Gatlin?

If not.....I think we could see the first sub 26.20 from Bekele....he annihilated a quality field in the 3k tonight, despite the conditions.
The 3k steeple record is a tough one.... I'm not sure if Shaheen is in the condition to get it this year.... maybe if the pacing is just right.

Shaheen will more or less be taking a break from the 3000 SC next year, only running it on maybe 2 occasions. He will instead run 1500's with an attempt at breaking 3:30, as well as having a crack at the 5000, where he hopes to improve his PB. He also stated that he plans to attempt to lower the SC record down to sub 7:50.
