The various vaporflies were designed for elite marathoners. I am speculating that they were maximized for elite athletes at specific marathon paces (4:40-5:20 per mile for men/women respectively), is it at this same PACE that amateur athletes would benefit the most?
It appears that elites are less likely to receive the same benefit when running close to 4:00 because of a loss of traction and form changes, so we may never see truly elite runners racing the 1500m or mile in the them. However, should a 5:00 HS miler be in the flat? Would a 15:30 5K guy see more benefit than a 24:00 5K guy? Do hobby jogger marathoners (2:40-3:40) see less benefit than 2:20 racers? No one runs 8:00 pace with the same form as Kipchoge so there much be less of a benefit for those 8:00 pace folks.
I am imagining something like a bell curve of benefit with 4:35-5:25 being the optimal paces for the various Fly iterations with paces faster or slower seeing a less significant improvement.
