Tabb was on fire in 1983 running 2:09:31, 2:10:24, 2:10:53, finished 4th at the 1984 marathon trials, more than 20 marathons under 2:20. Anyone with training info ?

I met Ron early 2013 when we were both training with Bill Dellinger's group. Ron ran a lot of miles and ran them hard. Even under Bill's program that had a lot of quality workouts, Ron put in the miles. I think Bill's training increased Ron's leg speed, hence running 2:09 that year at Boston and 2:10 at NY. Ron would do 120 miles per week with Bill having 3-4 hard workouts. He was one of those runners that the constant pounding didn't bother him, that's why he could run so many fast marathon. Ron will probably read this, but he hated running slower than 6 minute pace, even on easy days. We would walk down the hill from his house and boom, he would take off. Eventually the miles caught up to him, but crazy what he did 1980 to end of 1983.
What a coincidence, I just saw his book in my basement, "The Self-Made Olympian". I could post his training log if interested.

That's Ron Daws, a different guy, who was also big into mileage. Daws placed I think 3rd at an olympic marathon trial and competed in the Olympics. Daws training was straight Lydiard.

Al,
Do you mean 1980?
Ron pounded out the miles just like everyone from AW... most everyone was high mileage back then. Some handled that better than others.... it seemed to work for me that's for sure.
Stay well!
Running away from Mary Decker Tabb Slaney, ultimately. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Kvothe, you are totally right! My bad.
Thx
Alan Scharsu -- I'd love to read some of your memories from back in the day.!
Yes, 1983, sorry. I guess my point was Ron never seemed to take an easy day. I think Alberto was the same and that was hard under Bill's program. I couldn't handle it but Guys like Ron and Alberto thrived.
He attended the University of Central Missouri (UCM) formerly known as Central Missouri State (CMSU). Go Mules! A program with a history of producing some very good distance runners!!!

He is still in the top 10 on some lists.
