This is very subjective but interested in what people have to say. A little background: I used to run middle/long distance competitively, but a few years ago I moved away from that and put my focus on other areas. I am now in a situation where I am making an attempt to get back in shape and ultimately compete at a high level again, so I want to prioritize my training.
Right now, I work a 40 hour/week cubicle job, but for a while I’ve been working 10 hour days, Monday-Thursday, typically starting late morning and finishing between 9 and 10pm. It’s nice because I get my 3 day weekends every weekend. But I struggle getting in training with long work days, especially when I’m commuting (fortunately not right now). The days are long, hours are weird, etc. When I have worked out it’s typically during my hour lunch break, so not enough time there to get comprehensive training or even log enough mileage.
I have the ability to permanently switch my schedule to a typical 9-6 M-F work week. I’m trying to determine if the change would allow me to get more quality training in throughout the week and if it outvalues my current schedule.
Looking for some thoughts and advice. Opinions, your own experiences, or whatever else, all appreciated
Thanks!
