Because everything is racist these days.
All this disruption and thousands of deaths, perhaps millions more to come, because disgusting Chimese eat live wild animals at crowded unsanitary markets. Then they covered it up and allowed Wuhan residents to fly around the world so other economies would be as damaged as theirs. And the reason it spread worldwide was because governments wouldn't ban Chinese tourists because that would be rasheest.
It's the Chinese virus. China should be paying for all the mess this has caused. And virtue signalling millenials need to grow up because the next Chinese virus might target the young, just as the Spanish flu did.
Btw, the reason the Spanish flu got its name is because Spain was the only country in Europe not subjected to wartime reporting restrictions and thus was able to openly report on the scale of the epidemic.
Yes, thanks, nuclear war with China, brilliant fvcking plan dumb@ss.
I agree that China has a lot to answer for and Trump has good reason to be angry with China for keeping information from the world that could have kept this situation under control.
But why create an environment that encourage people to take out their anger against other Americans that just happen to share the same ancestry as the people responsible? They were not selling animals in the Wuhan market. Many have never been to China and many are children.
We need cooperation and not divisiveness to get through this.
I agree.
We can be upset with the Chinese government but not the Chinese people. The Chinese people have no freedom and do not get to choose their government. This is why democracy everywhere is even more important in this globalized world.
Since trump uses this term & he started the Obama Is Kenyan thing.
It is what it is
A long line of viruses from that area of the world
West Nile Virus will be hitting much of the US soon. Do we need to change the name? People from that part of the world are unhappy about it.
Bingo!
Why is it wrong calling the war in Iraq "American-and Brittish war" ? Or the last months of the Vietnam war "American war?
Maybe the Cuba crisis should me named crisis between "US, England and Russia"?
Foo, if she changed affiliation because of a few "looks," she probably has bigger problems.

We don't call it the Egyptian virus. There is a difference between naming something horrible after a geographic location and naming it after an ethnic group. And Trump knows that. Again we would not call something the Jewish virus because we know it would lead some to take actions against Jews.
Call it the Wuhan virus. There is nothing offensive about that. Chinese Americans and all Asian Americans will face acts of discrimination in the coming months. Let's not punish other Americans for something they had nothing to so with

That's hate mongering.
The rest of the world calls it the Coronavirus or Covid-19.
When some politicians and others now call it the "China virus" or the "Chinese virus" it's a deliberate attempt to assign blame to people who are essentially blameless.

Yep, it's classic dog whistling.
And if we want to be historically accurate, we should rename Spanish Flu to American Flu or, more specifically, The Kansas Flu.
I realize everything needs a name. That's how you keep track of things. But Trump and his kind have weaponized this aspect of the language and are playing to peoples' baser instincts. Pissed off about the state of things? It's hard to direct your anger at a Covid. Wait? It's Chinese? Yeah, we don't like them anyway because they took our manufacturing jobs AND NOW THEY'RE INFECTING THE WORLD! It's an easy leap to make if you're fearful or just plain ignorant.
Trump is practicing the politics that got him to the position he currently holds, president of the United Stated. Why would he abandon the tactics that work for him?
The media is trying to control the narrative and help the Chinese people and their country by suppressing anything that attempts to subvert China or Chonese people. This is because China is heavily involved with the rest of the world, especially in trade. But let's be real, this is ALL Chinas fault. The wet markets could wipe out a lot of humanity if a more serious disease easily spread through humans. China has had chances to ban them but they will not because it creates jobs and stimulates economy. F China and F the media for controlling the narrative on the selfish Chinese.
Much of the wildlife trade at issue was illegal under Chinese law before the COVID 19 pandemic. It just wasn't enforced because it is a multibillion dollar industry in China that providing income to a lot of poor rural Chinese who trapped the animals. The Chinese government has recently come out and issued a ban on the trade and consumption of wild animals. And attitudes among Chinese about wet markets and animal consumption have changed dramatically. It is ok to be upset with the Chinese for doing so little in the past about this, but they do get it and are moving very rapidly in the right direction.
And people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. The US could have stopped the virus at the border, but was more interested in keeping Muslims out of the US than COVID 19. The US could have contained the virus when it first emerged in Seattle in December. But Trump was more concerned with the number of positives hurting his reelection chances and took the Fox News approach instead of ramping up testing and other COVID 19 defenses. Even now, the response in the US is horrifically bad, with spring breakers filling beaches in TX and FL and testing kits being weeks behind in production. While the Chinese are to blame for the origination of the virus, the US is totally to blame for where the virus is today.
Regardless of where COVID came from, we cannot avoid the fact that Trump's disregard for reality has exacerbated the problem within the United States. He a) disbanded the pandemic task force that existed within the federal government and b) limited initial access to testing when it was clear this virus was a problem and spreading.
His effort to blame China at this point looks exactly like the high-school bully who points his finger at other kids when he has neglected, once again, to do his homework.
