Hi everyone,
I need advice. I'm a 4th year collegiate runner for a XC only team. Ran all four years so I'm out of eligibility for cross. Ran a sub 25 8k and posted some other decent times. Ran a 14:4X on the track for the 5000m (unattached at college track meet).
I've been accepted to a few medical schools and one of them make a lot of sense at this time due to financial aid (they aren't a prestigious program which causes me a little worry due to the USMLE Step 1 moving to Pass/Fail). They also have a track program that I definitely could walk onto. I really would want to consider running for a 5th year since I love the sport and I feel it would impress many residency directors.
I'm worried about time management. Are 75 mile weeks feasible with medical school curriculum? Also, does anyone have any experience running track somewhere after running at an XC only school for 4 years? From my understanding the NCAA will grant that eligibility since I've never technically participated indoor/ outdoor. My current coach isn't so sure.
I was originally going to just finish out this track season and run for fun in medical school but COVID-19 ruined my plans a bit. If anyone has any experience with this situation please let me know!
