It all depends on how we react. If we contain it, we will not hit 200M. If we don’t, well... the spread is doubling every two days. Multiply 3600 by 2 sixteen times and you get 236M.

Right now, people in my community are trying to come up with excuses not to take social distancing steps. Adequate testing does not exist, so we don’t really know how many people are sick. A good friend of ours got sick, and called the county health department to get tested; they don’t test available.

China completely locked down most of Hubei province when they had hit 400 new diagnosed cases a day.

China still ended up with 80,000 cases.

The US is currently seeing 1800 cases a day, and there is no lockdown yet. If we were to lock down the entire country today, following the Chinese trend line we would still see 320,000 cases.

We are nowhere close to the type of lockdown that China implemented.

Is that a testing error also or are they dealing with a totally different virus over there? Have they peaked out yet because they are in full lockdown over there and it’s still soaring exponentially. You defeated your own point by saying better testing would mean the number of new cases would be even higher.

You're assuming 320,000+ people aren't already infected. With 60 deaths. We have no idea because we aren't testing. I think I already had it in January when I ran a 103 fever for 3 days and tested negative for flu and the doctor sent me home with robitussin. This is a non-issue.

China's numbers were never believable. They are still locked down. Every verifiable measurement: energy use, pollution (record clean air, except for SO2, from burning bodies in crematories), exports, etc, says nothing has gotten better.

He’ll have plenty of time to analyze the actual numbers when the White House announces the 14 day mandatory quarantine for everyone tomorrow.

WTF are you talking about? Better testing would reveal new cases yes, but those cases are not actually new. When you start testing more people and finding more cases, that doesn't mean that the virus is spreading more, it means you are testing more. Saying that cases are doubling has nothing to do with virus spread, it has to do with testing spread.

I do know that I read the first patient in Wuhan is believed to be mid-November or earlier and since we were not locking down Wuhan for a MONTH AND A HALF, that it's quite likely this traveled the globe before anyone caught it because nobody COULD test for it. Tens of thousands of people were coming and going from Hubei daily; I guess all those people and their destinations got super duper lucky?

When you break down the statistics, the trend is clear.

That being said, there is a clear solution. It’s not easy or desirable. Many if us don’t think we can afford to hunker down at home for a few weeks. But we all have to in order to beat Covid.

I doubt the current administration can show the leadership required to mitigate the pandemic. They have been playing catch-up. It’s up to us to use our own judgement, and act in our society’s best interest.
