In the fast section of the Boys 1600m the bell rung a lap early. This caused confusion as everyone stopped after the 7th lap.

I read that they started running again and Liam Murphy crossed in 4:17.35. Apparently him and Shaw Powell were close on the 7th lap and were close to 4:10 low pace, and when they resumed it was still 1-2 Murphy and Powell but it’s a shame their race got screwed up
That really sucks, but props to Murphy, he crossed the line first in the 1600 and 3200, one of the few to do the double, just a shame he had to “finish” three times

There's going to be a re-run @ a later date I think
I just watched the race on MileSplit. What a mess. The clock on the infield and on the wall opposite the main stands somehow had about an extra lap worth of time on it. After 3 laps into the race the announcer on the video says "half way through the race at 2:18" but on the unofficial clock in the upper corner of the video we can see that Liam Murphy leads the pack through the 600 at about 1:36.
At the very end after the runners ran their "bonus" lap you can hear the spectators booing and giving the officials the business.
It's been some years, so it might not even be the same crew, but it reminded me of when the NJ meet officials pulled the Rosa bothers and other runners off the track due to lightning in the MOC 3200 with one lap to go. People were really pissed off about that too.
The tricky part with a re-run is that heat one was ran correctly. Heat two was the error. Do they re-run both heats? Keep in mind that here were two 4:18s in heat one.
Too late for any of that. They will probably award both heat winners 1st place and call it a day. Looks like it probably would have been 4:10 and 4:12 for the first 2 guys.
Murphy ran a 26 on the 7th lap thinking he was done, then a 39 on the last lap once realizing he wasn't finished.....................
there is no way they run the race again with nationals coming up this weekend.
Counting to eight is really hard. You can no longer use just one hand, you have to use some of the fingers on the other hand.
Luckily they don't do an indoor 5k, they'd have to take off their shoes to count toes or use someone else's fingers once they get past 10.
Counters are trained to start at 7 but then they flip 1/2 way through the first lap so that it already says 6 and they end up running 7 laps. Probably would happen more if runners and coaches were not smart enough to ignore it.

Oh it is the same officials and that is an issue that the state needs to face the aging of the officlals and the need to draw in new blood
The decided to make two different races. There will be a 1400m race and medals for those competitors(the heat which Murphy won). The other heat ran the correct 1600, so there will be a separate set of medals for those runners.
Murphy's 1600m after was faster than the winning time, even after he stopped then finished the 8th lap. The winner of the slow section shouldn't be given a gold medal because his time was slower.

That's ok, there was no ringing of any bells at the NYS meet at Ocean Breeze. Is this just not a thing anymore?
Jim Rosa would have went sub 8:40
