At the NAIA Champs this weekend, Huntington won the women’s title in pretty unusual fashion. Aspen Dirr and Hannah Stoffel both quintupled at the meet to account for 72 of the team’s 77 points (the other 5 points came via a 4th place finish in the women’s mile).
The quintuples become even more insane when you take into consideration the fact that the NAIA runs prelims for EVERY event. Dirr did not run in the prelims of the DMR, otherwise it would have been 20 races between the two. Their schedule and results are below.
Thursday Evening
5000m prelims - Dirr 17:39
4x800m prelims - 9:13
DMR prelims - 12:01
Friday Evening
1 mile prelims - Dirr 4:58, Stoffel 5:00
600m prelims - Stoffel 1:33.33
800m prelims - Stoffel 2:13.28
1000m prelims - Dirr 2:58.49
4x800m FINAL - 9:06.20 (1st Place)
Saturday Afternoon
1 mile FINAL - Dirr 4:53.72 (1st), Stoffel 4:55.21 (2nd)
600m FINAL - Stoffel 1:32.09 (3rd)
800m FINAL - Stoffel 2:08.98 (1st)
1000m FINAL - Dirr 2:50.10 (1st)
5000m FINAL - Dirr 17:12 (2nd)
DMR FINAL - 11:46 (1st)
While I understand that this is “just” the NAIA and these times pale in comparison to what the top collegians do, I still thought that the quintuples were pretty crazy.
