I know of like 1 or 2 people PERSONALLY who train like me for marathon training. #1. I'm pretty much anti speed work. I use short races as my speed work. #2. Super high volume (110+ mpw for the cycle), but like 90% of the mile is 2 minutes slower than race pace (6 flat). #3. The lack of rest days. Like 3 tops rest days in a 10 week cycle and 1 of them is the day right before the race. #4. NO TAPER. Two weeks out keep hitting the same high mileage and the week of the race M-F run 70-75 miles with Saturday off. It is literally do 2, 10 milers a day 3 days a week @ 8:00 pace. Monday is a 10 miler @ 8:00 pace. 10-15 miles 2 other days and Sunday is 20 in 2:40:00 to 2:45:00. If I can find a 5K on Saturday I'll warm up 1.5 and cool down 1.5 so that is 6 miles. Then hit the treadmill for 8-10 @ 8:00. I am improving @ the marathon with this method over the last 4 years. 2:53, 2:48, 2:46, 2:44, 2:43 and 2:39:40 on Sunday. 2:28:31 @ Big Bear, but that doesn't count. I usually wake up on race day, use the bathroom and them weigh myself. 164 to 167 (5'9") is usually my weight then I have breakfast and hydrate @ the race site. Should I just stick to this slow, mundane style if I am still getting better? Or do I just wait until I hit a wall?
