So, I’ve decided to drink the kool aid a little more on speed development. Our team now has a group specifically working towards the 4-8 combo with the possibility of stepping up to the mile. During the off season, we did weekly sessions of max sprinting reps of 50-80m with full recovery. As we started to transition into organize practice we did 2 sessions of 100@400 gp with 300 jog. My distance kids were surprised how hard it was.
Other main sessions are mostly CV paced stuff and tempo intervals. We’ve been doing a crap ton of ancillary work (weights, med balls, general mobility)
Last week, the main sessions were:
Mon: 10x100 @12-13(rolling start) with 300 jog:
Wed: 6x3min at cv 90 sec easy
Fri: 5x600 @vVO2 with 4 min recovery (top guys at about 1:50. First vVO2 session of the season. Supposed to be easy)
This week (with times for top group)
Mon: 1200@cv @ 4:04, 1 min recovery 800@cv @2:45 (the 4:04 was too fast). Change to spikes 3x250@33-35,(53-56 pace) 8 min recovery
Tue: Broken Tempo 5x4 min at tempo pace with 1 min recovery jog)
Thursday:pre meet 3 miles easy with 6x200@ seasonal goal mile pace (33-34) 200 jog
Season opener is tonight.
