Prior to last weekend, few had heard of Mekuant Ayenew of Ethiopia. The 29-year old had run 21 marathons and never run faster than 2:09:00. Well last week, he ditched his customary adidas shoes and put on a pair of the Vaporflys. Guess what happened?
A 2:04:50 world leading at the Zürich Maratón in Seville Spain.
Race Results Weekly says in its race report that he is unsponsored.

VFs are not worth 4 minutes. A 2:09 guy going down to 2:04:46 rings other alarm bells
Lelisa Desisa, 2:04:45 in 2013 at age 23, 2:05:52 in 2015, hasn't run faster since in vaporfly's. He only ran a 2:10 in 2019. This is one of the first ones I even looked at that wear vaporfly's, I''m sure I can find some more, but I have a life.

Ya, there's no way an olympic silver medalist for the 10,000 could bump up to a marathon the next olympics and win a bronze medal.

There are break throughs like this all the time, ever heard of Guye Adola? Also last year unknown Stephen Kiprop won RAK in 58:42 wearing adidas flats, this year Takumi-Sen-guy Kibiwott Kandie destroyed a field of Vaporflyers including 2:03 marathoner Mule Wasihun to win in sub59 too. It's perfect advertisment for Nike that you always mention which shoe a Nike guy wore, but never for those who didn't wear them and still did great.

I concur though, Rojo's free marketing for Nike being very annoying.
If I recall correctly, the gold medalist also wore them. But no mention of an asterisk for him. Doesnt matter if he is the WR holder, perhaps he wouldn't have won on THAT day w/o the VFs.
Yes, VF can knock minutes off of a marathon time. So does EPO. One is legal, one is not. This is getting a bit obsessive, don't you think? Please stop it with the asterisk thing, they are legal shoes.

It should be mentioned that Ayenew ran his 22nd marathon. With that being said I am sure nobody runs that much faster only because of the Vaporfly. Either his training sucked before or (more likely) he just used the advantages a country with zero drug testing has to offer.

And Kipchoge's gold? Or Lilesa's silver?
You hate Rupp - we get it. Question - what are you going to "cover" in US Distance running once Rupp retires? We literally have no one who will be able to compete on the world stage - US Distance running on the men's side will be DEAD. It's kind of like Andy Roddick in tennis (and Rupp is much better than Roddick btw) - he retired and there's not a single American relevant on the world stage. Good luck to you when this day comes....
