Dogs messing with my runs

If the dog leaves the property, comes on the road to chase you, you should be able to file a complaint with the police. The dog owner would be fined for not keeping his or her dog leashed or on his or her property. That fine would be a few hundred bucks. If the dog happens to bite you, especially off their owners property (on the road) you could press charges or sue the owner as well.

I have this problem as well. In college, I had to avoid certain routes altogether because out in the country people think its fine to just let their dogs run wild. It might even be legal. It super annoys me in state parks where its illegal to allow dogs to roam off leash. For some reason, we'll fine people for going 5 over the speed limit yet let them break laws which require them to have a beast that could kill someone properly controlled. I've never found places where leash laws are enforced and because they only bother serious runners, complaining doesn't do any good. One guy complained sure, but 3000 did not, so why bother looking into it. You can sue the dog owner if the dog bites you and you incur medical expenses, but that's probably going to be small comfort if you miss significant time training.

Just report them to Animal control or the police whatever the process is in your town.

This usually works well. You might have to show up at the town court when they won't to fight the charges. Fun experience.

Dogs can see what is inside a man's heart. If dogs are attacking you, maybe you should ask yourself what they are seeing in you and try to change accordingly to become a better person.

Exactly it's so annoying.

Dump HCL on any ugly dog that comes near you, then stab it with a knife. Then set it on fire.

If it's a little dog, get it to chase you. A little yapper kept charging me every day on my route, so one day every time it stopped I would stop too and egg it on to chase me farther down the road. I was about a half mile down the road when the owner finally drove up in her car to get the dog. After that, it never chased me again, and I never even saw it again.

I live in the country. About 10 years ago I would do an early Sunday morning 10-12 miler each Sunday. I ran down this road for several years and this house had two male Rottweilers about 120 pounds each that were fenced inside a chain link fence that had about 300 feet of road frontage as the fence was about 10 meters from the road. As I ran by week after week, the dogs would run up and down the fence line going crazy as all I could think was “I am so glad they are in that fence” one Sunday, I was jogging by at about 7AM half asleep and I hear the dogs barking - they are loose wondering around in the front yard. I turn around and sprint down the road in the opposite direction as both dogs are in pursuit. One dog stops and turns back, the other does not and is closing on me like Ray Lewis. The dog is now 10M from me and going to be on me in 3,seconds, I decide I need to make this dog think I am psycho because I cannot outrun it. I turn around, raise my arm in the air and run at the dog screaming - the dog stops, and trots back home. That may have been the most scared I have ever been - I stopped running that route for 5 years until they sold their home

Run with a taser or a glock.

Carry a couple of dog biscuits in your pocket, if a dog chases, you, drop one and it will stop and enjoy the snack - after a couple of times, it will be your friend for life.

Works in the country when owners aren't around. Do this on a trail and you'll get some kind of charge.

If you're going to use pepper spray, use it on the owner. The dog is just having a blast in the woods. The owner is too dumb to keep it on a leash.

I always thought about that. Does the dog trick treat really work? I feel like it won't if the dog is already in full pursuit. Maybe it will work at the very start of the pursuit. And what if the dog is already full from eating recently? There are too many variables to consider that would make that not be the best option.

Luckily this dog isn't a rottweiler, but it's still pretty big and scare the hell out of me whenever I see it.

I can’t imagine being scared enough of puppies to react this way. Toddlers play with dogs without getting scared. Do you also arm yourself against the bunnies that hop around in your yard?
