The minimum starting distance for a sport that tries its best to include every running distance possible is too far in my mind.
The 100m is 328 feet long. That's 28 feet longer than a football field. That's too far to maintain top speed.
I feel as if the 50m or 60m dash should be added to the outdoor meets. It could also be used to help a 100 meter runner. The better they get their time down to in the 50 the faster their 100 will be.
The 40 yard dash is the most popular event in the USA. It's more popular than the 100.
Due to several reasons. There are way more NFL fans in the USA than there are track and field fans.
More people ask what's your 40 than what's your 100.
So why not add in an event that will appeal to the football fans? They could also add in the 40 yard dash to make it more interesting.
But for now adding the 50 or 60 to the outdoor meets is a good first step.
What's everyones thoughts on this? Would this be a good idea?
