I ran a 3:24 but the weird thing was at the end I wasn't dying--my legs were giving way--but aerobically I felt my lungs could have gone another 5-6 miles. I wasn't really out of breath at the end.
japanese training is not "just volume". and there's no way you can be running 60 mpw and have it be anything close to "japanese training"
and it's common in marathons for your legs to be the determining factor rather than your breathing. quite normal
