>>>>>i believe the rule is lifting 'according to the human eye.' so of course you could take a high speed camera and see she's lifting. then again, if you were to ever watch a racewalking event closely (and believe me, i have both in road races and on a track) then you would know it's not as easy to see sometimes that someone may or may not be lifting.

Exactly. Those infrigements that can't be detected by the human eye are all of 15-20msec flight phases, in other words, f*** all. Under the way modern walking is judged that is not considered to be gaining any significant advantage at all. A still picture always makes things look worse. Remember the rules were written at the turn of last century and with advances in training, science (and drugs), like any sport, the rules are adjusted for modern times, this case contact is judged to the human eye, not cameras. Thus Ivanova produced a perfectly legal racewalk under the current rules. For those who think they are running, if you can't tell the difference betwen the running and walking gait I don't like your chances of doing anything of use in life. Then again Ivanova could probably walk the distance faster than alot of the people on this board could run it, hence they pull the sport down to make themselves feel better. Remember she'll always be a better athlete than alot of you guys, no matter how much you rationalise it.
